Tara Saunders steps down as Newfoundland and Labrador’s representative on ITAC’s Board of Directors

Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Vancouver, BC The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) would like to thank Tara Saunders for her leadership and years of service as the Newfoundland and Labrador representative on ITAC’s Board of Directors serving as the Secretary on the Executive Committee. 

Saunders works as the Tourism Development Officer for the Qalipu First Nation which, with almost 23,000 members, is one of the largest First Nations in the country. Saunders worked with the Nation on its five-year tourism development strategy, Experience Qalipu, focusing on developing market-ready cultural experiences and other tourism products throughout Mi’kmaq communities in Newfoundland. Saunders is a proud community member and passionate about finding strategic ways to work together to showcase all Indigenous communities of Newfoundland & Labrador to the world.

Elected to ITAC’s Board of Directors in 2018, Saunders brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the board and was instrumental in guiding ITAC to where it is today. Saunders is an industry leader and true advocate for Indigenous Peoples from coast to coast to coast. On behalf of ITAC’s Board of Directors, President and CEO, the ITAC family and the entire Indigenous tourism industry, we would like to thank Tara Saunders for her relentless adversity, support, leadership and years of service and wish her the very best of luck in all her future endeavours.
