ITAC hosted a series of seven regional forums throughout Saskatchewan over the past month, hearing from Indigenous business owners, communities and partners around the province on the priorities and challenges for Indigenous tourism development in Saskatchewan.
Sessions were held as follows:
- Meadow Lake, May 15
- Green Lake, May 24
- Yorkton, June 5
- Fort Qu’Appelle, June 6
- Regina, June 7
- Prince Alberta, June 12
- Saskatoon, June 14
All together, more than 75 participants attended the various sessions. Participants expressed an interest and support to create an organization in Saskatchewan specifically to lead Indigenous tourism development for the province, discussing ways to grow Indigenous tourism business and support the existing industry.
These sessions were also to start discussions that will lead to the hosting of Saskatchewan Day on October 29, 2018, as a pre-event to the 2018 International Indigenous Tourism Conference, October 30 & 31, 2018 in Saskatoon.
