Application Submissions Open as of April 4th, 2018

April 4th, 2018, Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Vancouver, BC – The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) calls for applications to the 2018 Provincial/Territorial Indigenous Tourism Association Funding Program, designed to strengthen the development of the Indigenous tourism industry across Canada.

Based on ITAC’s goals as outlined in the Five Year Plan to increase Indigenous tourism revenues in Canada, grow levels of Indigenous tourism employment, and increase the number of Indigenous tourism businesses in the Canadian travel industry, the program provides funding to support and strengthen the development of industry-led, not-for-profit Indigenous tourism associations in each province and territory. Funding applications will be accepted from April 4 to May 15, 2018 by completing the appropriate application form.

The funding program is supported by Indigenous Services Canada, and asks Indigenous representatives who do not already have established not-for-profit Indigenous tourism organizations in their provinces or territories, to submit a proposal of up to $65,000 which may be awarded per region. Proposals must demonstrate how they support establishing a sustainable Indigenous tourism association. Provinces and territories with an established Indigenous tourism association are also invited to apply for the funding, with proposals indicating how investments directly support ITAC’s five-year goals to increase Indigenous tourism revenue, employment, and number of businesses. Priority will be given to Indigenous tourism organizations who participated in year one of the program (Fiscal 2017-18).

Successful applicants will be notified by the end of June 2018. Funded services and programs must be completed by March 31, 2019, and finalized with a Project Report due April 30, 2019. Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the planning and feasibility of the proposal, specifically how the plan will achieve the deliverables within the allotted timeframe.
