Welcome to the Indigenous Tourism Education Modules – a comprehensive three-part series presented by the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC), in association with Destination Canada (DC). The following program has been thoughtfully designed as a resource for travel trade professionals looking to build their knowledge and understanding of Indigenous tourism in Canada.

Each module offers comprehensive insight and practical knowledge, enhancing your ability to identify and connect travelers with authentic Indigenous tourism experiences.

Module 1

Provides an overview of Indigenous tourism in Canada, broadly exploring Indigenous communities, their history, and their impact on tourism. This module will highlight the unique cultural, economic, and social contributions of Indigenous tourism, setting the stage for a deeper appreciation of its role in the Canadian tourism industry.

Module 2

Module 2 introduces ITAC’s accreditation program, “The Original Original.” Participants will learn about the rigorous standards and criteria that ensure the authenticity and quality of accredited Indigenous tourism businesses. This module also features a showcase of accredited members, offering a glimpse into the exceptional experiences they provide.

Module 3

Module 3 guides participants through ITAC’s consumer platform, “Destination Indigenous,” a vital tool for discovering and promoting Indigenous tourism experiences. It will also showcase noteworthy Indigenous experiences located along popular cruise ship ports on Canada’s coastlines.
