Showcasing 140 export-ready Indigenous tourism businesses from across Canada
Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Vancouver, BC – The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) is very pleased to release the second issue of Nations, ITAC’s annual magazine, which this year showcases stories from 140 export-ready Indigenous tourism businesses from coast to coast to coast. These stories about our members are designed to spark inspiration as readers explore Canada through an Indigenous lens.
In an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 and avoid transmission, this year’s magazine will only be available online. Enhanced content is also available throughout the online magazine creating an interactive reading experience. Readers can explore and engage in content further by clicking the “Explore Further Online” icons throughout the magazine. This year’s issue of Nations also highlights Destination Experts working in the Indigenous tourism industry; exploring their stories, their experiences and their motivations for working with Indigenous tourism businesses.
“I am happy to share our second edition of Nations, a digital-only magazine for these COVID-19 times,” says Keith Henry, President and CEO of ITAC. “I hope readers take inspiration from the stories included about our members across Canada; inspiring them to travel – in their imagination – to the wilderness of the North; to find comfort in traditional foods and community; to dream of seeing whales, bears and the shimmering aurora borealis; and to find solace in traditional knowledge passed down through generations – all shared in this year’s edition of Nations.”
Please remember that many of our Indigenous tourism businesses across Canada have pressed pause on their businesses until it is safe for them to re-open and many are operating in a limited capacity. It is important to research destinations in advance to ensure the community is ready to welcome visitors and it is recommended to always contact operators before travelling to ensure the best and safest experience possible. Visit DestinationIndigenous.ca for up-to-date information on Indigenous experiences that are open and ready to visit.
