Unceded Algonquin Anishinaabeg Territory (Ottawa, ON) – The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) is proud to announce that the 2024 International Indigenous Tourism Conference (#2024IITC)—the world’s largest Indigenous tourism conference—has been awarded “Best Conference – Social and Community Impact” at this year’s Canadian Event Awards (CEA).
The CEA has long been regarded as the most prestigious recognition in Canada’s event industry. For over two decades, these coveted awards have celebrated the very best in planning, production, design, and execution. Bringing together the country’s top event producers and creative visionaries, the CEA recognizes the unmatched innovation and talent that drive Canada’s event landscape.
The Best Conference – Social + Community Impact category recognizes conferences that drive meaningful, positive change in society or communities through education, collaboration, and action. These events often tackle significant social issues, foster inclusivity, or build awareness around causes such as sustainability, equity, health, or community empowerment.
#2024IITC was held in unceded Algonquin Anishinaabeg Territory in Ottawa, ON, from February 26 to 28, and brought 1,000 delegates, including Indigenous tourism operators, funding partners and industry supporters from coast to coast to coast and around the globe. Through three days of learning and networking: inspirational keynote speakers, engaging workshops, panels, and local cultural tours, the conference championed reconciliation through tourism and advancing the Indigenous tourism sector.
Thanks to the Canadian Event Awards for this honour, and congratulations to all the finalists and winners at this year’s awards, ITAC also thanks our host nation, our partners and sponsors, our attendees, and every community member who contributed to the success of #2024IITC. Together, we’re setting new standards for how the Indigenous tourism sector can be a powerful force for reconciliation in action.
We look forward to continuing this momentum as we prepare for the 2026 International Indigenous Tourism Conference (#2026IITC) in Edmonton, AB, from February 17 to 19, 2026. Save the date!
