on becoming a member of the Canadian Signature Experiences collection

Dec. 1, 2017, Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Vancouver, BC – The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) would like to extend it’s congratulations to Tundra North Tours on achieving a Canadian Signature Experience (CSE) designation announced this week by Destination Canada.

The Canadian Arctic Reindeer Signature Package with Tundra North Tours achieved the designation after meeting the high standards that define this curated collection of extraordinary and authentically Canadian travel experiences. Owned and operated by Kylik Kisoun Taylor, the Canadian Arctic Reindeer Signature Package, welcomes travellers to an incredible Indigenous experience in the Northwest Territories.  The adventure takes visitors on a snowmobile ride into the wilderness to help herd 3,000 caribou alongside skilled locals. In a basecamp setting, visitors engage in cultural experiences, storytelling, feast on traditional food and perhaps see the northern lights. The final destination on the adventure is Tuktoyaktuk.

“We are incredibly proud to see these diverse and amazing Indigenous experiences achieve national designation and recognition while showcasing the exciting range of Indigenous culture and adventures that can be found across Canada,” says Keith Henry, President & CEO of the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada. “The Canadian Arctic Reindeer Signature Package with Tundra North Tours in the Northwest Territories, is certainly a bucket list experience and provides travellers an opportunity to engage in a culturally rich experience that is truly one of a kind.”

This summer, Tundra North Tours was featured in an inspirational installment of ITAC’s Power of the North video series, created in partnership with True Calling Canada. Recognizing that tourism can uplift Indigenous communities and educate people about traditions and beliefs that differ from the own, Taylor explains that he takes pride in learning and understanding the elements of the Indigenous way of life from the elders in his community, and he works hard to uphold and portray traditions as accurately and realistically as possible. His video may be viewed here: www.indigenoustourism.ca/en/gallery/

Since the Canadian Signature Experiences program’s inception, the collection has grown to over 200 members and Destination Canada works in partnership with all 13 Canadian provincial and territorial marketing organizations to build and maintain the collection. The full list of members can be found here: Canadian Signature Experiences.
