March 6, 2019, Unceded Syilx Territory (Kelowna, BC) – The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) has launched their new website for their eighth annual International Indigenous Tourism Conference (IITC), taking place in Kelowna this November.

The eighth annual IITC will bring together delegates from the Canadian tourism industry, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, as well as representatives from global Indigenous tourism organizations to discuss Indigenous tourism topics, barriers, opportunities and trends across Canada and the world.

“We are extremely proud of what the International Indigenous Tourism Conference has achieved in eight years, sparking positive momentum within the Indigenous tourism industry in Canada” said Keith Henry, president & CEO of the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada. “With such profound growth in the Canadian Indigenous tourism industry, it is more important than ever to keep up engagement.”

Last year, IITC saw over 500 delegates participate from across Canada.

This year, the theme is, “Inspire. Transform. Unite. Accelerating Indigenous tourism growth.” Indigenous tourism has the power to change perspectives, preserve culture, language, and community and provide our relatives with a platform to be the leading voice in reclaiming our space in history — both ancient and modern.

The Conference will offer workshops, panel discussions, presentations and keynotes on Indigenous tourism topics and trends, share industry research and marketing strategies, and will present key tactics to support growing local tourism development capacities in Indigenous communities. The conference is also home to the Indigenous Tourism Awards, where Indigenous tourism businesses from across Canada are recognized for their successes in marketing, leadership and innovation.
