This past Friday, February 23, 2018, ITAC, along with our partner Travel Manitoba, co-hosted the inaugural meeting of the Manitoba Indigenous Tourism Advisory Committee in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The Committee has been established to provide strategic guidance and recommendations on how to advance Indigenous Tourism in Manitoba, and are a key outcome of the MOU between Travel Manitoba and ITAC.

At this first meeting, the committee reviewed the ITAC National Strategy, outcomes from the Manitoba regional engagements (October-November 2017) and discussed major topics to be covered at the Manitoba Indigenous Tourism Summit, scheduled to take place later this spring. The committee will meet regularly over the next 2.5 years to lead an Indigenous tourism strategy for Manitoba.

There are seven members of the committee: Committee Chair David Daley, Wapusk Adventures (Metis – Churchill); Sophia Rabliauskis, Sagatay Lodge (Poplar River First Nation); Desmond Mentuck, Parks Interpreter (Waywayseecappo First Nation); Marilyn Tanner-Spence, Teekca’s Boutique (Winnipeg); Carl Smith, Brokenhead Sky Wind Tours & Debwendon (Brokenhead Ojibway Nation); Jason Gobiel, Community Coordinator (Brandon – absent); Josh Sinclair, Bay River Developments (Fisher River Cree Nation – absent).
