ITAC’s Director of Marketing was invited to attend the Indigenous Gathering on Cultural Heritage this week, hosted by Parks Canada on Treaty 7 Territory in Calgary, Alberta. Parks Canada organized the event with the following objectives.
1. Develop a deeper understanding of Indigenous perspectives and expectations of Parks Canada around Indigenous heritage.
2.Establish respectful practices of engagement with Indigenous peoples as an example for future Parks Canada initiatives.
3. Identify individuals who are interested in and can contribute to advancing Parks Canada’s projects and initiatives.
4. Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous cultural heritage practitioners and organizations.
Parks Canada is working with the Indigenous Heritage Circle to plan these events and discussions and ITAC hopes to remain connected and involved in future planning. Stay tuned for more information.
