Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) and partner Destination Canada continued building Canada as the world’s premier destination for authentic Indigenous tourism experiences this week with an Inuit cultural industry tour of the Torngats in Northern Labrador with the Nunatsiavut Government and their Torngats Base Camp.
The tour included representatives from Destination Canada, ATAC, Parks Canada, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), National Geographic Travel, Jonview Canada, Condé Nast (USA), CANUSA Touristik (Germany), Maple Fun Tours (Japan), PriceTravel Holdings (Mexico).
The authentic Inuit cultural tour featured the unique history and challenges the Inuit people faced through their thousands of years of history. The tourism partners listened to the stories of the local elders, visited historic sites, toured ancient ruins and witnessed how the land and Inuit people continue to live their culture today. This was surrounded by the unforgettable views of landscape and wildlife where visitors can watch polar bears, whales, northern lights, and much more.
This is one of many important steps ITAC and Destination Canada continue to partner on to build the International reputation and awareness to ensure Canada is the world’s premier destination for authentic Indigenous tourism.
Thank you to Destination Canada President and CEO David Goldstein for his vision and partnership to, together with Indigenous tourism businesses and ATAC, support the future of tourism in Canada. There has never been a stronger partnership between the two national organizations and these projects will have long term and direct impacts for the Aboriginal tourism industry in Canada.
ITAC and Destination Canada continue to explore other industry tactics to feature Indigenous destinations throughout Canada.
