August 29, 2017, Huron-Wendat Territory (Wendake, QC) – The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) recognized key tourism industry leaders during its summer board meeting, hosted on Huron-Wendat Territory in Wendake, Quebec.
The ITAC board was welcomed to Wendake by community Elder Oney Maher, Chairman of the Quebec Aboriginal Tourism Association Steeve Wadohandik Gros-Louis, and Grand Chief Konrad Sioui of the Huron-Wendat Nation. In addition to the warm welcome by the hosts, the ITAC Board was also joined by The Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business & Tourism, and Mr. David Goldstein, President & CEO of Destination Canada as the board and guests enjoyed a brief tour of the community.
Minister Chagger, Mr. Goldstein and the Huron-Wendat Nation each received a framed certificate of appreciation for their significant contributions to Indigenous tourism across Canada. Accepting on behalf of the Huron-Wendat Nation was Vice-Grand Chief Jean Vincent, who is the chief responsible for the tourism industry in Wendake. Presenting on behalf of ITAC was board Chairman Mr. Robert Bernard, Vice-chair Mr. Dave Laveau and President & CEO Mr. Keith Henry.
“Wendake is a proud and welcoming community” stated ITAC Board Chairman Robert Bernard. “The Grand Chief’s words on being proud and standing tall as Indigenous peoples, were an important teaching moment which we can each take back to share with our home communities, all across Canada.”

A non-profit organization, active since August 2006, Tourisme Wendake was set up by the Council of the Huron Wendat Nation, with the intention of:
• promoting tourism and all activities related to this process;
• making all gestures and carry out all steps in order to upgrade, in matters of tourism and culture, the current context taking precedence within the Huron Wendat Community of Wendake; and
• promoting the Native culture in all its forms or guises.
